Our Time in Port St. Joe

The Port St. Joe Marina is an operation that is a wonderful example of how to do something right. It is ably managed by Clara who was patient with cruising who kept changing their minds due to changing weather forecasts. We ended up staying there 3 days due to severe thunderstorms. At one point, rain was coming down at over 2 inches an hour!! Winds were clocked at over 40mph in gusts. A good time to be tied up to a nice, secure dock instead of out on the water. Between storms we managed to get out and explore the town. Port St. Joe is a nice small town full of nice people who practice the Southern hospitality taught by moms for many generations. We visited the Ace Hardware and the local dive shop several times taking others with us on return visits. We cruised into the local Dollar General and of course found some things we couldn't live without. They're the new version of Ben Franklin and TGY from our youth.

We had an exciting ride down the Appalach River through Appalachicola and the Appalachi Bay to Carrabelle. We hit over 8 kts in some spots with only our jib (front sail). The winds were coming from the right direction and blowing a steady 15-20. We'll rest here over night, catch up on laundry and head across the gulf on Saturday, April 4.
