Today is Friday, December 7, Pearl Harbor Day. As I type, David is installing a new carburetor on our dingy outboard. It has become increasingly unreliable and we didn't want to risk getting stranded in the middle of a deserted area with nothing but oars against the currents. We also have a new clevis pin for the attach point of the boom goose neck to the mast. It had become too deformed to be safe and that juncture is pretty essential to sailing so it needed to be fixed. Other nitnoids have been dealt with so all that remains is putting on groceries for 2 months, no small task. We'll be calling a cab for that trip. The really tough part will be getting it all to the boat and put away. The current goal, if the outboard is healed, is to depart on Sunday for Rodriguez Key then sail for Bimini on Monday. Once we leave the mooring, it may be a long time before this is updated so please be patient.
We've not been bored while here, in fact, we went to a play last night and it was wonderfully delightful. We ride about 10 miles or more every day just getting around or going to see something. We've toured around in our dingy even though it was slow going with our weak engine. We've gone small supply grocery shopping and hanging out meeting people and reading. We have managed to get by on the water in our tanks since last Sunday and the wind and sun have kept the batteries full enough but that may not last with all the rain we've had. This has been good practice for the Bahamas where we'l spend a lot of time on anchor and water costs money. We'll see.
