Random Sailing Thoughts

There are many great things about getting out and sailing around. One fun thing is watching the phosphorescent creatures glow in the water at night. Some places seem to have more than others. One night behind Crooked Island, David and our friend Dave Sampson held themselves up between our two boats and kicked like crazy turning the water a neon green. Also, you flush a marine head by drawing in sea water then turning the valve and flushing it into your holding tank. At night it can be quite a shock when you're half asleep and you turn your toilet into a bright, glowing green light show. Reminds me of the old train days when you flushed just to watch the tracks go by through the hole.

Another great thing is watching dolphins play. We see them almost every day and when you sail, they like to play in your bow wake. One time we had over 30 of them sliding up next to the boat then peeling off and going behind to come up and do it again. Outside of Clearwater we saw several babies and their mamas. The younger ones like to do jumping tricks. I can just imagine their moms scolding them about being showoffs and they'd better stop right this minute!!! Last night we saw two manatees (this is the Manatee River) in the marina. They are not attractive animals but the fact that they are endangered makes a sighting special. You can't get enough of all the birds, butterflies and other miscellaneous critters you see. We still use the nature identification guide my brother Andy gave us years ago.

We hope you all have a Blessed and Happy Easter.
